Our Ignatian Spiritual Direction Initiative is dedicated to supporting the ongoing formation of spiritual directors in the Ignatian tradition through networking, resource sharing, and programming.

About Our Ignatian Spiritual Direction Initiative

Launched in 2016, the goals of the OIS Spiritual Direction Initiative are to: 1) provide continuing formation opportunities for spiritual directors; 2) connect spiritual directors to people seeking direction, and 3) share resources and ideas that support the ministry of spiritual direction.

If you are trained spiritual director, or discerning becoming one, we are here to support you.

Contemporary trauma studies and clinical practice point to the impact of trauma on the mind and emotions. But what of the impact of trauma upon the soul and related implications for spiritual practice, Ignatian spirituality, and pastoral care? Trauma-informed care requires a focus on body and soul, mental health and spirituality – two languages, one voice in the recovery process.

This program is for Ignatian spiritual directors, supervisors and givers of the Spiritual Exercises who seek to grow their understanding, capacity, and skills to accompany affected victim-survivors and those who love them. This program is presented by Fr. Rob McChesney, SJ, and grounded in his pioneering new book The Soul Also Keeps the Score: A Trauma-Informed Companion to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.

We have created the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors to connect those seeking spiritual direction with a trained director. More than 400 trained spiritual directors are registered in the Catalog.

For trained spiritual directors.

For those seeking spiritual direction.

We offer resources for spiritual directors, those discerning a call to become a spiritual director, and those engaged in the ministry of the Spiritual Exercises.

We want to hear from you!

We are here to help people find God through spiritual direction, and to support spiritual directors in their ministry.
