OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors

For trained spiritual directors.

For trained spiritual directors.

Thank you for all you do as an Ignatian spiritual director! At the Office of Ignatian Spirituality, we are committed to supporting you in your important work.

We maintain a confidential database of trained spiritual directors within the USA East province of the Society of Jesus (Maine to Georgia) currently offering, or available to offer, spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition. This is a valuable resource for those trying to find a spiritual director.

If you have completed a spiritual direction training program, live within the boundaries of the Jesuit East province, receive ongoing spiritual direction, participate in regular supervision (individual or group) and pursue annual spiritual direction education/formation opportunities, we invite you to register in the OIS Catalog.

It is important that all spiritual directors abide by the Guidelines for Ethical Conduct published by Spiritual Directors International.

All who register in the Catalog of Spiritual Directors are asked to sign a Catalog Covenant and complete a 5-step process that includes an Ethics in Spiritual Direction training component. Click here to learn more about the Catalog Covenant and the steps needed to complete the process.

The OIS catalog will not be made publicly available and your contact information will only be shared with discretion for referring potential directees.

Already registered? Take a minute to update your information. Let us know if you have moved, work at a different ministry, or changed your email address. We’d also like to know about your experience as a spiritual director, any expertise you have working with specific groups (e.g. young adult, divorced, LGBTQ+, etc.) and if you are receiving supervision. If your availability to accept referrals for new directees has changed, please let us know.

Process for Referring Someone Seeking a Spiritual Director to a Spiritual Director in the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors

STEP 1

After identifying a potential spiritual director for a seeker, we email a brief summary of the information provided by the seeker to the potential spiritual director.

STEP 2

We ask the potential spiritual director to consider the request and respond to us as promptly as possible (within two weeks). It is a great help to receive a response within a week if the spiritual director chooses not to accept the referral.

STEP 3

If the potential spiritual director accepts the referral, they email us indicating availability.

If the potential spiritual director chooses not to accept a referral, they email us indicating unavailability. We then search the OIS Catalog for another potential spiritual director and repeat the process from Step 1 above.

STEP 4

Once an available spiritual director has been found, we send an email to the seeker with the contact information of the potential spiritual director and instruct the seeker to reach out to arrange an initial meeting. The potential spiritual director waits to hear from the seeker. If the potential spiritual director hears from the seeker and both seeker and spiritual director decide to move forward, meeting times, places/platforms, payments/offerings and other details must be discussed directly by the spiritual director and the seeker. We are unable to serve as the go-between for appointment details.

PLEASE NOTE

  • If a potential spiritual director is unavailable to accept a referral, it is not appropriate for the potential spiritual director to refer the seeker to another spiritual director. Doing so removes the seeker’s referral from the OIS referral process.

  • If something arises after a potential spiritual director accepts a referral that makes the spiritual director unavailable before the initial meeting with the seeker takes place, the potential spiritual director informs us of this change.

  • If the initial conversation between the seeker and the potential spiritual director results in the potential spiritual director questioning the seeker’s suitability for spiritual direction, the potential spiritual director contacts Michelle Gomez, Ignatian Spiritual Direction Initiative Program Coordinator, at mgomez@jesuits.org.
