Catalog Covenant

Our Catalog of Spiritual Directors Covenant weaves a common thread among all spiritual directors registered in the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors. Introduced in 2025, this Covenant aligns with our efforts to promote accountability, continued growth and ongoing formation. It includes an Ethics in Spiritual Direction Training Module that all spiritual directors listed in our Catalog are required to complete.

Catalog Covenant Criteria

Based on a reflective review of our Catalog and referral process, we have established the following criteria for all spiritual directors registered in the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors. We invite you to review and prayerfully consider these criteria:

• completion of a spiritual direction training program

• participation in ongoing spiritual direction

• participation in ongoing supervision (group or individual)

• participation in annual spiritual direction education/formation(preferably Ignatian)

Spiritual directors registered in the Catalog are expected to abide by the Guidelines for Ethical Conductpublished by Spiritual Directors International. These guidelines are meant to promote “integrity, responsibility and faithfulness in the ministry and service of spiritual direction.” (Guidelines for Ethical Conduct, opening paragraph)

Completing the Catalog Covenant

• Step 1: Enroll in the OIS Catalog of Spiritual Directors if you meet the criteria and if you are not already enrolled. Click here to learn more and to enroll.

• Step 2: Register for one free-of-charge virtual Ethics in Spiritual Direction conversation session. The next conversation session will take place on September 15, 2026 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm ET. Click here to register for this conversation session. An additional session will take place on March 10, 2027 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm ET. Click here to register for this conversation session. • Step 3: Once you register for an Ethics in Spiritual Direction conversation session, you will receive a password to view the OIS Ethics in Spiritual Direction video. You can access the video by clicking here and typing in the password.

• Step 4: After viewing the video, answer ten short video comprehension questions by clicking here.

• Step 5: Attend the virtual Ethics in Spiritual Direction session, that you registered for, where you will have the opportunity to discuss the ethics video you watched and ask questions. These sessions will not be recorded; you must attend the live event.

• Step 6 : If you meet all of the Catalog Covenant criteria and have completed the previous four steps, complete, sign and submit the Catalog Covenant found here.
