12 Weeks in Manresa: Spiritual Exercises for our Times

The Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies seeks to deepen an understanding and appreciation of the history, spirituality, educational heritage, and pedagogical approach of the Society of Jesus through courses, workshops, publications, and scholarly symposia.

12 Weeks in Manresa:
Spiritual Exercises for our Times:

Type: A self-guided Ignatian retreat in daily life based on the Spiritual Exercises.

Format: The retreat is made independently. However, we suggest small group faith sharing every week or every other week. In-person or online, dependent upon small group or individuals.

Dates: This 12-week, self-guided Ignatian retreat can be done asynchronously. However, we suggest starting on a Sunday. (Suggested Summer 2026 dates, with weekly emails to keep you on track, runs June 21 to Sept. 5.)

About: The Institute invites you to participate in 12 Weeks in Manresa: Spiritual Exercises for our Times, a self-guided Ignatian retreat in daily life based on the Spiritual Exercises, using a text offered through Jesuit Sources: “Finding Christ in the World: A Twelve Week Ignatian Retreat in Everyday Life,” by Joseph Tetlow, S.J., and Carol Atwell Ackels.  The book is an extended adaptation for praying with the Exercises. It provides daily content for prayer and space for taking notes.

In addition to the book, which will guide your daily prayer, there are retreat presentations on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, led by Fr. Casey Beaumier, S.J., available in the "Retreat Content" section of their website.

The Institute’s involvement in your retreat is minimal. We distribute the text and provide you weekly content

Cost: The retreat itself is offered at no charge.  The only cost is the purchase of the retreat material.

Register: Learn more and register up here.

Contact: Please contact iajs@bc.edu with any questions.

The Institute’s involvement in your retreat is minimal. In addition to the book or app purchase, which will guide your daily prayer, there are two additional components of the retreat: presentations on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, led by Fr. Casey Beaumier, S.J., and optional small group faith sharing.

By registering, you will receive weekly emails to keep you on track to start the retreat on Sunday, June 21 and conclude on Saturday, Sept. 5.  All who register by May 30 will receive a discount code to purchase the retreat text, Finding Christ in the World.
