On Saturday, April 11, approximately thirty-five people from St. Anthony Parish in Oceanside, NY, along with others from Long Island communities, participated in the retreat “Walking with Creation” presented by OIS’ Ministerio Hispano Ignaciano.

Throughout the day, participants walked in nature and engaged together in the Ecological Examen, a spiritual practice rooted in Ignatian Spirituality that focuses on recognizing God’s presence in creation. The journey included six stations offering space for reflection, meditation, and prayer, inspired by the Fourth Universal Apostolic Preference: Care for Our Common Home.

The movement between stations took place in silence, fostering contemplation and deep listening. The experience concluded with a Spiritual Conversation, during which participants shared the movements and resonances they experienced along the way. The retreat began at 8:30 a.m. and ended around noon.

The gathering took place along the trail at the Marine Nature Study Area, 500 Slice Drive, Oceanside, NY 11572. This site features a raised boardwalk over peaceful marshlands, including a saltwater area, a walking trail, and a nature center.

The Ignatian Hispanic Ministry of OIS extends its deep gratitude to all the communities whose participation made this spiritual experience possible. In a special way, it expresses its appreciation to Rosmery Madera, coordinator of the Ignatian Hispanic Community of Oceanside, for her leadership, dedication, and support in organizing this event.
