Inspired by the reflection, “Christians on the Margins,” members of the Hispanic Ignatian Community (CHI) of Chestnut Hill, MA, felt called to take concrete action: support families from the emerging Hispanic Ignatian Community at St. Benedict Parish in Somerville, MA.
Moved by a deep desire to “put faith into action” and strengthened by their shared identity as CHI, participants dedicated themselves to collecting food and assembling bags filled with essential items: basic pantry staples, personal hygiene products, and household goods.
“Faith can embody love, compassion, and justice through tangible acts of care.”
This initiative responds to an urgent reality: many of these families, due to fears rooted in their current circumstances, avoid leaving their homes—even to buy food. That’s why each bag was prepared with careful attention to their real and pressing needs.
Over the past month, several members of the Hispanic Ignatian Community have delivered these food bags to families facing difficult times. While this effort is not meant to be a permanent solution, it stands as a powerful witness to how faith can embody love, compassion, and justice through tangible acts of care.
