February 27, 2020 – The Lenten season is a journey that invites us to reflect more deeply on the life of Christ and the mysteries of our faith. In preparing for this journey, the spiritual traveler needs tools, resources and direction. If you're looking for assistance in your journey this Lent, you're in the right place.
March 1, 2020 – These 40 days of Lent are an opportunity to deepen our spiritual lives and, as St. Ignatian would say in the Exercises, “to reflect and to take advantage” of the richness of the readings that we will hear. Let us all join our prayers together, in our native languages but as one community, beginning with these short video reflections on the Sunday Gospels.
Feb. 10, 2020 - This month Pope Francis is asking us to join him in praying to hear the cries of migrants. "We pray that the cries of our migrant brothers and sisters, victims of criminal human smuggling and human trafficking, may be heard and considered."
February 6, 2020 – In 1975, the Society of Jesus published “Our Mission Today: The Service of Faith and the Promotion of Justice.” Composed under the leadership of then-Superior General Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ, the document reminds us that we are to understand the pursuit of justice in the world as integral to the Ignatian way of proceeding. At the heart of Ignatian spirituality is the invitation to be a contemplative in action, and “action” means, in large part, working to create a more just society.
Jan. 2, 2020 - This month Pope Francis is asking us to join him in praying for the Promotion of World Peace. "We pray that Christians, followers of other religions, and all people of goodwill may promote together peace and justice in the world."
The invitation in Christmas is to reflect and shift our lives towards God’s wishes for us. Our hearts and activities should move in the same direction and be able to celebrate together the Nativity of Jesus.
December 22, 2019 – For Pope Francis, a perfect Christmas begins with us “making a mess” — that is to say taking a risk, seeing and speaking out about bad situations, doing something new, something different, something for justice, something that could change the misfortunes of the present so that the blessed future might arrive.
December 15, 2019 – “The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers… They will see the glory of the LORD,” the prophet Isaiah tells us in today’s first reading. It is a beautiful image, but I can hardly imagine it. When we speak of the desert, the first image that comes to mind for me is not flowers and lilies blooming, but what I see in photos and videos of immigrants trying to cross the southern border into the US.
December 1, 2019 – Advent is a liturgical season of great significance to Christians. We have the opportunity to reflect on, and prepare for, Jesus entering the world as a child in need of love and care. As we contemplate Jesus as a child, vulnerable and fragile, we are able to see his greatness.
December 1, 2019 – The Universal Apostolic Preferences give us ways into contemplating the mystery which Advent itself unfolds for us. They invite us to a ‘contemplative listening’. In each we are directed to hear and follow the Spirit who is calling to us. Often, too, we will come to recognize those who are already on the way before us; those who can lead us and teach us.
December 1, 2019 – This Advent, the Jesuit network will be inviting you to engage more deeply with God through Ignatian spirituality, a spirituality that challenges us to be both contemplative and active. Through your Advent prayer, ask: Do I hear the cries of the earth and the poor? How do I respond? Does my response point to a hope-filled future?

Sheila completed her doctorate in theology at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, Canada, where she also helped found PACT-Ottawa (Persons Against the Crime of Trafficking in Humans).

October 8, 2019 – The colloquium, held at the Campion Conference & Renewal Center in Weston, MA, on Sept. 11, 2019, considered some of the key challenges facing aging Jesuits. It explored ways in which the Exercises can assist an aging Jesuit with insight, warmness of heart, and a spiritual freedom that gracefully leads to final fulfillment in God.
October 3, 2019 – This month Pope Francis is asking us to join him in praying for Missionary spring in the Church. "We must also remember that the soul of the Church’s mission is prayer. In this extraordinary missionary month, let us pray that the Holy Spirit may engender a new missionary spring for all those baptized and sent by Christ’s Church."
Sept. 4, 2019 – OIS is launching a new program this fall called Las Comunidades Hispanas Ignacianas, or Hispanic Ignatian Communities. The Comunidades will be comprised of 15 to 20 adults committed to deepening their faith, accompanying one another on their spiritual journey, and putting their faith into action.
September 4, 2019 - This month Pope Francis is asking us to join him in praying for the protection of the ocean. "Our solidarity with the 'common home' is born from our faith. Let us pray this month that politicians, scientists and economists work together to protect the world’s seas and oceans."
Sept. 4, 2019 – The Season of Creation began on Sept. 1 and continues through Oct. 4. Christians around the world are encouraged to pray for the care of Creation and to consider ways to act. Below are some resources from a variety of Catholic environmental organizations to help you more substantively engage in this Season.
August 5, 2019 – This month Pope Francis is asking us to join him in praying for families and the role that they play in teaching future generations. "Let us pray that families, through their life of prayer and love, become ever more clearly 'schools of true human development'."
July 1, 2019 – More than 125 spiritual directors attended our Symposium for Ignatian Spiritual Directors last Thursday through Saturday at Fordham University. Thank you to everyone participated in this wonderful event!
