Spring 2019 Workshop for Spiritual Directors

Our Spring 2019 workshop for spiritual directors, "Hope Does Not Disappoint: Spiritual Direction in Challenging Times for the Church," will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. The workshop will also be live-streamed.

A panel discussion led by Judy Talvacchia and Rev. James Bowler, S.J., this workshop will discuss accompanying people during this critical time in our church. Judy and Jim are convinced that a solid grounding in one's own prayer life and basic Ignatian principles are fundamental in effectively walking with others. This workshop is co-sponsored by St. Peter Catholic Church.

Meet Our Presenters:

Judy Talvacchia is a married Roman Catholic lay woman. After a 23 year career in the corporate world, she earned a Master of Divinity degree from Weston Jesuit School of Theology where she completed the Practicum in Spiritual Direction. She has offered spiritual direction and programs in spirituality for over 20 years. She is now a group facilitator for Spiritual Formation for Ministry and she co-teaches Introduction to the Practice of Spiritual Direction at STM. She is also a certified chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and has worked in health care ministry for many years. Judy has a strong interest in the formation of lay ecclesial ministers who can serve effectively in today's church. She understands spiritual direction as a process of "listening people into being" their most authentic selves before God and in the service of others.

Rev. James Bowler, S.J., is the Pastoral Minister at St. Peter Catholic Church. Previously, Fr. Jim served as facilitator for Catholic and Jesuit identity at Fairfield University as well as Director of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality. This followed more than 20 years of ministry in the area of spiritual direction as director of Campion Renewal Center, executive director of the National Jesuit Retreat and Renewal Ministries, and as a staff member at the Guelph Center of spirituality in Ontario, where he was responsible for training and supervising spiritual directors in the Ignatian tradition. He has spent many years integrating Ignatian spirituality with the psychology of Carl Jung.
