Jesuits Magazine Summer 2017

Dear Friends,

The Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces were very blessed this past June to have ordained four new priests to the Society of Jesus. It was a particularly special day for family, friends, and fellow Jesuits who have known these men since they first entered the novitiate a decade ago. Hearing God’s calling, discerning His mission in life, and responding to live that vocation is an incredible journey for us all—for everyone, not just for those who follow a path to religious life.

Whenever we reach out to others, whenever we give selflessly of ourselves to the needs of strangers, we are answering God’s call to be Christ-like. The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola teach us to recognize God in all people, to find God in all things, and to ask ourselves each day what we have done for Christ. Jesus spent his whole ministry showing us how to answer and respond to His Father’s will. Like Jesus, we are often called upon to bear crosses in our lives, but through perseverance and prayer, we can do great things despite the daily hardships we face.

The Jesuits and our lay colleagues strive every day to say “Yes” to God’s invitation. Through our schools, parishes, retreat centers and apostolates, we seek to transform lives. We hope this summer issue of JESUITS Magazine gives some insight into some of the ways we work to answer God’s calling by helping others to hear His voice too.

Sincerely in Christ,
